Chiropody & Podiatry
I have 20 years experience in the field of chiropody and podiatry. I have had my own business at the Datchet Medical Centre for 20 years.
I have built up a strong clientele while running my own mobile practice, and I continue to develop my skills learning new things. I also treat diabetic patients.
I am always happy to provide free foot care advice and information. Good healthy feet result in a good quality of life, and happy feet equal happy people!
Nail Problems
This involves routine nail care and nail infection control.
Corns
Corns are hard layers of skin that develop as a response to friction and pressure. You may have foot corns if you experience the following symptoms on the tips and sides of your toes:
Rough, tough or yellow patches
Lumps or bumps
Skin that is sensitive to touch
Pain when wearing shoes
Foot corns can be safely treated and can be prevented from reappearing.
Calluses
Calluses are hard, thick, larger patches of skin that have an irregular shape.
Calluses form on the weight-bearing areas of the feet, and are found on the bottom, bony areas of the foot (eg: heels, big toes, the ball of the foot and along the side of the foot).
Verrucae
A Veruca is a wart on the foot caused by the human Papilloma Virus. They commonly occur on the soles of the feet and toes.
The veruca can be contagious and transmitted through direct person-to-person contact. They tend to be common in children, teenagers, young adults and people who use communal changing rooms
Cauterisation is a very effective way of dealing with verrucas. A current is passed through a resistant needle electrode that generates heat. This is then applied to living tissue and breaks down the tissue cells.
Athletes Foot
A common skin infection of the feet caused by fungus between toes.
Athletes Foot is red and itchy, and can sometimes spread to other parts of the foot.
Ingrown Nail
An ingrown nail happens when the nail grows into the side of the toe.
An ingrown nail can be very painful, and if left untreated can cause pain, problems and deformities.
Biomechanics Assessment
Prescribed of foot orthotics joint malalignment may cause compensatory mechanisms, excessive pronation of the foot which is common cause of foot, ankle knee, hip and lower back pain.
